# kanari

## Facts

- Name: kanari (lowercase wordmark). The canary in the coal mine: the
  universal symbol of early warning — when the canary sings, there is still
  time to act.
- Coverage: worldwide, refreshed every ~2-3 minutes. Archive of significant
  fires since 2026-08-03, with a permanent page per fire.
- Detection sources: NASA FIRMS (VIIRS NOAA-20/21), NOAA GOES, EUMETSAT
  Meteosat MTG (FCI Active Fire Monitoring), Bluesky, GDELT press, Telegram.
- Citizen reports are AI-triaged (two independent judgments) for relevance,
  location and recency before appearing on the map.
- Cost: free, no account required. Push alerts per map area.
- Live firefighting aircraft: kanari shows near real-time ADS-B positions of
  water bombers worldwide — Canadair CL-415/CL-215, the French Sécurité
  Civile fleet ("Pélican" Canadairs, "Milan" Dash 8s), Air Tractor Fire Boss,
  S-2T Turbo Tracker, DC-10 and BAe 146 air tankers, and firefighting
  helicopters (S-64 Air Crane, CH-47 Chinook, CalFire Firehawk). Aircraft fly
  in daylight only, so few appear at night.
